Best\nPractices In Health Intercultural Mediation"},"content":{"rendered":"
During the meetings of the course Sociology of Health of Mobile Populations and Good Practices of Cultural Mediation, emphasis will be placed on the way in which sociological theory and research contribute to the interpretive\/critical understanding of issues of health, illness and the sick body, especially as it concerns refugee and immigrant groups, in Greece and Europe. At the same time, we will focus on empirical examples, and case studies, through the field of research\/thematic interest\/work that explore the ways of constructing and giving meaning to human experience, especially when it is aligned around issues of the sick body, chronicity, unpleasant or borderline experiences (close to life and death). Through selected theoretical and research texts of this tradition, issues such as the patient's relationship with the medical institution, the importance of the family environment, the rearrangement of daily life due to forced relocation, the biographical rupture due to quasi-displacement, the choice of treatment, the experience of illness, etc. will be studied, in order to promote good practices of cultural mediation between domestic and international institutions and these social groups. The course is structured in the form of weekly lectures around individual thematic units, which are described in detail in the overall outline of the course and concern issues such as cultural diversity and social representations, interculturality, the body, medical knowledge, and health behaviors. In addition to the above, topics such as care seeking and response to public health interventions, the health of immigrants, the case of the 'healthy refugee' and the necessity of health interventions to maintain social cohesion are explored. Extensive use is made of printed, visual and audio material from the fields of current events, but also from the past, depending on the topic under investigation (e.g. presentation of the self, chronically ill people, social stigmatization, social and cultural significance of diagnosis, relationships and interactions in hospitals, gender dimension of illness, cultural mediations, etc.). Films with corresponding content are also shown to facilitate discussion and exchange of views among students. In addition to the above, small work groups are created that undertake to critically investigate and present various issues of applied research on these issues from various perspectives. Finally, students are encouraged to present their own "lived experiences" as an occasion for a broader discussion on theoretical, research, ethical and moral issues that relate to these sensitive social fields and spaces of social experience.<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"class_list":["post-2353","course","type-course","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/soc.aegean.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/course\/2353","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/soc.aegean.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/course"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/soc.aegean.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/course"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/soc.aegean.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2353"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
