Through a wealth of teaching materials, classroom activities and group work, this course seeks to help students develop the academic and professional skills required for students of the Social Sciences, as described below: 1. Academic Skills in English (EAS) and in Greek, when necessary. – High-level research in the library and the internet to find bibliographic references and evaluate the material they find, – High-level research and complex search to find electronic dictionaries and automatic translation machines, so that students can overcome terminology problems, – High-level Writing and Speaking Skills in English: 2. Oral presentations in English, 3. bibliographic sources written in the Latin alphabet [e.g. English, French] and bibliographic sources written in another writing system [e.g. Greek, Arabic, Chinese, Russian]) 4. How to paraphrase, reformulate scientific opinions of scientists without falling into the offense of plagiarism, 5. Editing essays (from previous examination periods), 6. Writing a Cover Letter in English, 7. Writing a Curriculum Vitae (CV) in English, 8. Different levels of writing and presentation in English (e.g. British and American English) so that students can develop intercultural competence in English used around the world (Englishes), and 9. Possible comparison of academic and professional skills in English and Greek so that students can improve (and maximize) their interlingual and intercultural skills.
