The credit units (ECTS) corresponding to each course reflect the student workload required to complete all the activities of the specific course, such as attending lectures, participating in workshops or seminars, preparing assignments, using university libraries for research and bibliographic information and, finally, participating in all types of exams. In accordance with the applicable legislation, the ECTS that each student of the Department of Sociology must accumulate in order to obtain a degree are distributed as follows:
- 6 ECTS per course (if the student proceeds to write a thesis)
This thesis receives 12 ECTS - 30 ECTS per semester
- 60 ECTS per academic year
- 240 ECTS for obtaining a degree in 4 years of study
In the context of student mobility, the Department ensures that all necessary conditions for the mandatory implementation of the ECTS system are met.
REQUIREMENTS FOR OBTAINING A DEGREE
- Success in the 17 mandatory "core" courses of the first four semesters.
- Completion of a minimum of 240 credit units – ECTS.
- Successful attendance of at least 4 (four) seminars.
- There are 64 courses available in total, of which students must attend at least 40.

SEMINARS
Process for selecting students for a seminar and registering their declaration
Students interested in registering for seminar courses should express their interest by contacting the instructors during the first lecture of the courses and at the times when the seminars are scheduled or in an alternative manner indicated by the instructor (e.g. registration by email to the instructor).
For the selection of those interested in a seminar, the following criteria apply in combination:
a. Grades in courses taken prior to or related to the seminar. These courses are determined by the instructor and are fixed.
b. Number of seminars that the student has already registered for. Students who have registered for less than 4 seminars are given priority (in order of the smallest number of seminars).
c. A quota of participating students in the seminar is set depending on their semester of study. A percentage of participation is set for the seminar seats by students studying in the same semester as the semester to which the seminar belongs and by students studying in semesters longer than the semester of the seminar.
It is clarified that the time of the declaration - application to participate in a seminar does not affect the final selection.
The number of participants in the seminars is a minimum twenty (20) students and cannot exceed twenty-five (25).
Attending seminars is mandatory. They can be made at most up to three (3) absences (including excused absences).
The instructors rank all students interested in participating in the seminar, according to the above criteria.
The selection of students who will participate in the seminar is finalized on the 2η week of the seminars, utilizing, where necessary, the runners-up from the ranking order of all students who applied-registered for participation. After the final selection, the lecturers send the lists of the selected students to the Secretariat, which communicates the final lists of participants in the seminars.
It is therefore clarified that seminar courses will appear as eligible on the StudentWeb electronic platform only after the announcement of the final list of students selected for the seminars.
