Subject of the DPMS:

The Inter-Institutional Postgraduate Program entitled "Criminology and Anti-Crime Policy" is part of the strategic planning of the University of the Aegean and the University of West Attica, is governed by scientific coherence and aims to promote knowledge, develop research and meet educational, research, social and developmental needs associated with the study of crime, social deviance, social control mechanisms and anti-crime policy. Graduates will be able to critically analyze phenomena of gender-based violence, domestic violence and child abuse, assess risk and protective factors, apply assessment and incident management tools and design advocacy, empowerment and protection interventions for victims.

Knowledge and Skills provided by the DMPS:

Graduates of the Diploma in Public Administration have the opportunity to be employed as specialized executives in public and private bodies, organizations and services operating in the following sectors:

  • anti-crime and correctional policy,
  • social reintegration and supervision of released prisoners,
  • policing and local security,
  • social welfare and protection of vulnerable groups,
  • research, education and public policy making,
  • as well as civil society organizations that promote social justice and human rights. 

The Inter-Institutional Postgraduate Program "Criminology and Anti-Crime Policy" offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to crime, social deviance, mechanisms of social control and contemporary anti-crime policies. The program focuses on the critical understanding of the social, political, cultural and institutional dimensions of the criminological phenomenon, highlighting its connection with social inequalities, power relations, human rights and social justice.

The M.A.S.C. is a comprehensive educational framework for postgraduate studies, which combines theoretical training, applied knowledge and research expertise. It is based on interdisciplinary collaboration between scientists from the fields of Sociology, Criminology, Social Work and other social sciences, utilizing modern theoretical and methodological approaches.

Upon successful completion of the Inter-Institutional Postgraduate Program "Criminology and Anti-Criminal Policy", graduates will be able to:

  1. Analyze and interpret contemporary theories of Criminology, Sociology of Crime and Anti-Crime Policy, utilizing critical, interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches.
  2. They explain the relationship between crime, social deviance, social inequalities, institutions of social control, and penal governance.
  3. They critically evaluate crime prevention policies, correctional policies, social reintegration policies and social protection interventions.
  4. They plan and implement forensic and social research, applying appropriate quantitative, qualitative and mixed research methods.
  5. Analyze empirical data and produce evidence-based scientific conclusions on issues of crime, victimization, social exclusion and social policy.
  6. Recognize and evaluate the impacts of social inequalities, gender, social class, ethnicity, disability and other factors in shaping experiences of victimization, delinquency and social exclusion.
  7. They apply theoretical and practical tools to understand and address gender-based violence, violence against children, institutional violence and other forms of social harm.
  8. They design social prevention, empowerment, advocacy and social reintegration interventions for individuals and groups who are in a state of vulnerability or social exclusion.
  9. They operate with professional and research ethics, demonstrating respect for human rights, gender equality, diversity and the principles of social justice.
  10. They collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral environments with professionals, agencies and organizations active in the fields of criminal justice, social policy and social protection.
  11. They utilize modern digital tools, information technologies and innovative educational and research practices for the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge.
  12. They produce autonomous scientific work, develop original critical thinking and contribute evidence-based knowledge to the public and scientific debate on issues of crime, social control, anti-crime policy and social justice.

The Interinstitutional Postgraduate Studies Program (IPMS) awards Postgraduate Diploma (P.D.M.S.) titled: «"Criminology and Anti-Criminal Policy"» in the Greek language and «"Criminology and Criminal Policy"» in the English language.

The Postgraduate Diploma is awarded jointly by the Department of Sociology, University of the Aegean and the Department of Social Work of the University of West Attica, after successfully completing all the requirements of the Study Program and accumulating the required ECTS credits.
