The course attempts to highlight the sociological dimension of Education. The course aims to analyze the most important issues of education in the light of sociological theories, as well as to examine the "contemporary controversial issues of the field. The course discusses issues related to the main sociological examples of the Sociology of Education. The content of the course includes more specifically theoretical approaches (Functionalism, Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theories, Micro-Sociological Approaches), basic concepts of the Sociology of Education, issues related to educational inequalities, school performance and the learning behavior of members of the educational community. Through the reasoning of the course, the multifactorial nature of the phenomenon of education and its role as an ideological-cultural institution is highlighted. Finally, it includes their gradual introduction to ways of analyzing the role of education and key issues of educational reality.
