The course is developed in two parts. The first concerns the presentation and analysis of selected artistic practices of interventionist art from the beginning of the previous century to the present, emphasizing the theoretical and social framework in which they were developed and focusing on the contemporary media environment. Social practices and their particular artistic, interventionist and dialogic characteristics are presented and analyzed, how they are shaped in the environment of new media, the categories they shape in fields such as communication, mobilization, public knowledge, etc. and their origins in historical artistic movements. The lectures include the presentation and analysis of social practices developed in the field of performance, through presentations concerning performative interventions in public space and radical groups. The second part concerns engagement in the field through the development of experiential exercises at a personal, but also at a collective level, with the aim of activating artistic interventionist practices in public space. This module includes walking practices aimed at multi-sensory exploration of space, recording personal interpretation, and developing relational practices. In the process of processing, the concept of the archive is examined, as an active source of cultural production, as well as interventional practices concerning the art of the archive. The thematic modules of the course are presented briefly:
● Art as social action-Interventional Art
● From psychogeography and mind mapping to data representations and “activist” mapping
● Axionism: from Vienna to Moscow
● Alternative Activist Practices in the Age of New Media

● Understanding the processes of developing interventional practices in relation to the artistic and social context of their development.
● Familiarity with and use of contemporary visual arts practices and methodologies as well as their necessary theoretical framework at a personal and collective level.
● Understanding the surrounding social space through the process of artistic practice.
● Conception and design of original action plans and intervention practices.

Upon completion of the course, students have acquired a critical view of contemporary visual concepts and practices developed in the field of interventional art, as well as the ability to produce new research ideas through the design of personal and collective interventional practices that concern the contemporary social environment and include the development of relational practices. Students apply and utilize interdisciplinary approaches, through the selected thematic areas of engagement and their scientific fields of reference, while at the same time teamwork and interaction are strengthened through experiential exercises in the field. They utilize modern means and technologies for searching, analyzing and synthesizing data and information, in the process of recording, processing, sharing and distributing the material. The developing thematic areas of engagement and the planned visual intervention practices concern the highlighting of current social problems as well as the empowerment of vulnerable and vulnerable social groups.
