The course analyses terms related to legal and irregular migration, integration policies and readmission agreements. Policies to combat irregular migration are described, as well as the overall approach to migration and mobility in international law and the European legal order. The action plan on migration and external border management policies are analysed in detail, with particular reference to the risks for the EU arising from the migration process itself per se. An important chapter in the analysis of the policies implemented is the specificities of the wider Mediterranean region in the light of the socio-political crises that have affected it. European asylum policies are further analyzed as well as concepts and topics such as minimum asylum requirements, subsidiary protection status, the European Pact on Migration and Asylum (2020), the Dublin III Regulation as well as the procedures followed in the Reception and Identification Services and the conditions for the recognition of vulnerability, the issuance of PAAYPA and residence permits.
